It’s a beautiful thing, getting up at the crack of dawn to paddle. The sun has not yet poked up over the horizon, the air is cool and refreshing and the waters are mostly dead calm. You get to move your boat through the quiet water in silence. The motorboats don’t start appearing usually until after 8am.
When that first morning sun kisses your face, you feel the warmth of the beginning day. I often chose a course that will have me paddling directly into the sun as it rises. I close my eyes, and feel it deep within myself, calming, evoking clarity of thought.
As the birds call out along the shore, I am reminded, it is spring in the Hudson Valley. The river is always full of life, and this time of the year you can spot new life everywhere.
Tides; low – 12:04pm, high – 6:07pm.
